Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking an experienced Border Patrol Agent (BPA) at GL-9/GS-11 level with potential relocation and placement in prioritized duty locations.

The role offers strong federal benefits, base pay, locality pay, and opportunities to qualify for significant recruitment and retention incentives upon appointment. New hires may receive up to $20,000 recruitment incentive and up to $40,000 retention incentive over four years, with overtime paid up to 25%.

Qualifications

• GL-9 requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in duties such as searches, apprehension, and firearms proficiency.
• GS-11 requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level with authority to enforce laws and investigate crimes.

Responsibilities

• Detect illegal entry and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Apprehend and restrain violators and use surveillance to pursue illicit activity.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform checks and patrols across various locations and modes of transportation.
• Patrol borders using vehicles, horses, vessels, and off-road equipment to fulfill the USBP mission.
