Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (Experienced) at GL‑9 / GS‑11 levels. The position offers base pay, locality adjusts, and incentives, with duty locations across the Southwest and other regions.

Candidates with prior law enforcement experience may qualify for higher-graded opportunities. Relocation may be required and retention incentives are available. Applicants will join a national agency dedicated to protecting borders and enforcing laws.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GL‑9, performing duties such as weapon searches and evidence gathering.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GS‑11, enforcing laws, leading investigations, and using advanced surveillance technology.

Responsibilities

• Detect suspected violations and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Maintain surveillance to deter and apprehend smugglers and aliens near borders.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform checks of farms, buildings, traffic, and city areas.
• Patrol international boundaries using vehicles, horses, boats, and off‑road gear.
