Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) invites qualified candidates to become Border Patrol Agents (BPA). With a broad entry to mid-level career path, the BPA role is part of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer profession and offers competitive base pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience or education substitution to qualify for GL-5 (one year general work experience or a bachelor's degree).
• For GL-7: one year specialized experience or equivalent education/substitution.
• Higher grades (GL-9/GS-11) available with qualifying experience in law enforcement contexts.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
• Apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers near borders using various assets.
• Performing checks of farms, buildings, traffic, and transportation; patrolling borders and coastal waterways.
