Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPA) in the United States. The agency offers strong base pay, extensive federal benefits, and job stability, with recruitment and retention incentives up to $50,000 across academy completion and prioritized locations.

Duties include border security, inspecting documents, and using a range of assets to detect and deter illegal entry. Entry can start at GL-5 through GS-11 grades with potential for promotion.

Qualifications

• One year general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure under stress.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Detect immigration and customs violations and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders using surveillance and various assets.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets.
