Job summary

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents at full-time, entry to mid-level grades. Salaries vary by grade (GL-5 to GS-11) with a broad benefits package and recruitment/retention incentives. Duty locations include various U.S. sectors; selected locations may influence offer terms.

New hires may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with additional retention incentives up to $30,000 over three years. Training at the Border Patrol Academy is provided after hire.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge and make decisions in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field from an accredited college or university.
• A combination of general work experience and education may qualify for higher grade levels.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance (e.g., infrared) during night operations.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband; perform farm, building, traffic, and city patrols; utilize diverse assets for border security.
