Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (Experienced) at GL‑9/GS‑11 levels in multiple duty locations across the United States.

This full-time career role offers base pay, locality pay, overtime, and substantial recruitment/retention incentives to selected candidates with prior law enforcement experience. Duty assignments include a variety of priority locations; relocation may be required.

Qualifications

• GL‑9 and GS‑11 require one year of specialized experience or equivalent to next lower grade, with authority to enforce laws.
• No education substitutions for GL‑9 or GS‑11. Best evidence of eligibility is federal experience.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers at/beside borders using surveillance and equipment such as infrared scopes.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets to accomplish USBP mission.
