U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents to protect the United States by preventing illegal entry and contraband while facilitating lawful travel and trade.

Training at the Border Patrol Academy follows selection at GL-5/GL-7/GL-9 or GS-11 levels with extensive law enforcement duties and nationwide duty locations. These positions emphasize physical fitness, decision-making under stress, and adherence to immigration and national security regulations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Immigration and Nationality Law (e.g., nonimmigrant classifications, admissibility)
• Knowledge of Use of Force Policy (firearms, less-lethal devices, qualifications)
• Knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure (statutory authority)
• Skill in Using Physical Techniques (self-defense, baton, OC spray)
• Skill in Using Firearms (handgun, shotgun, M-4)
• Skills in Basic Operation of a Motor Vehicle (driving, parking)

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration laws and inspecting documents
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks
• Patrolling international boundaries and waterways using various assets
