Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at full-time levels with education or prior public safety experience. The BPA role includes enforcing immigration and customs laws, patrolling borders, and using a variety of government assets to deter illegal entry.

Starting salaries range by grade, with incentives up to $20,000 recruitment and up to $30,000 retention. Training follows academy participation, and benefits include health and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: U.S. citizen.
• Residency: normal residency requirements.
• Education: bachelor's degree or equivalent, or combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of immigration and customs violations.
• Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Patrol borders using vehicles, horses, vessels and other assets.
• Maintain surveillance and use infrared scopes during night operations.
• Interpret tracks, marks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
