Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) at entry and mid-levels. The role offers strong base pay, federal benefits, job stability, and recruitment/retention incentives. Various duty locations nationwide are listed with potential future vacancies.

Selections will be at GL‑5, GL‑7, GL‑9 or GS‑11 levels with promotion potential to GS‑12. The salary ranges from $51,632 to $124,717 per year, plus health, retirement, and Thrift Savings Plan benefits.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience that demonstrates ability to take charge, make decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; or
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study; or
• A combination of general work experience and education submitted with your application.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near the borders using surveillance from various assets
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets to accomplish the USBP Mission.

Education

Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree
