This is a small-firm role working directly alongside the firm’s principal CPA — no layers, no siloed department.
Who this is for You’re a capable bookkeeper, with good QuickBooks experience or accountant/ tax preparer who’s good at what you do and ready for more. In this seat you’ll see the full range of a CPA practice — individual and business returns, payroll, financial statements, new entity setups — and learn it from someone who has been doing it for decades.
Maintain client books in QuickBooks: bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR, month-end close
Prepare or support individual (Form 1040) and business tax returns, including document intake and data entry
Process payroll and prepare quarterly and year-end payroll reports
Prepare financial statements for CPA review
Communicate with clients on missing documents, deadlines, and routine questions
Handle office administration: scheduling, filing, e-file confirmations, mail, and phones
Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks (Desktop and Online)
Hands-on experience with personal income tax returns
Both of the above matter equally — this role sits at the intersection of the books and the returns
Strong attention to detail and discretion with confidential client information
Ability to juggle multiple client files and hit filing deadlines, including through tax season
Professional written and verbal communication with clients
Tax software experience (Lacerte, UltraTax, or similar)
Payroll processing experience
Accounting coursework or an associate’s degree
Interest in or experience with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or AI features inside accounting software) — no expertise required, just curiosity and willingness to experiment
