Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a field assistant to help assemble, analyze defects in, and repair boilers, boiler auxiliaries, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats in customer sites, following blueprints and using hand and portable power tools to deliver high quality work.

You will support pipe fitters by layout, assembly, and installation of piping, supplying parts, and helping with testing and flushing requirements.

Qualifications

• Preferred 24 to 36 months’ experience working in the construction field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
• Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
• 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work.
• Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements.

Responsibilities

• Cut or drill holes to accommodate the passage of pipe.
• Assist Pipe Fitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping.
• Supply pipe, elbows, flanges, hangers or supports to the fitter.
• Cut to correct length, bevel and thread pipe as directed.
• Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems using hand tools.
• Bolt, clamp and support components for welding.
• Assist with testing and flushing requirements.
• Keep fitter supplied with tools and equipment.
• Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipe and set sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipe.
• Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe.
• Perform general housekeeping duties and keeps work area clean.
• Other duties as assigned.
