Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. in Bartow, Florida is seeking a field helper to assist in assembling, analyzing defects in, and repairing boilers, boiler auxiliaries and tanks, following blueprints and using hand tools on site.

You will support pipe fitters with layout, assembly and installation, supply pipes and fittings, and help with testing, flushing, and housekeeping. Must be 18+, able to lift 50 lb, and prepared for 40+ hours, with possible weekend work.

Qualifications

• Preferred 24 to 36 months’ experience in construction.
• Must be at least 18 years old and physically able to lift 50 pounds.
• 40+ hours per week, with possible weekend work.

Responsibilities

• Cut or drill holes to accommodate the passage of pipe.
• Assist Pipe Fitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping.
• Supply pipe, elbows, flanges, hangers or supports to the fitter.
• Cut to correct length, bevel and thread pipe as directed.
• Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems using hand tools.
• Bolt, clamp and support components for welding.
• Assist with testing and flushing requirements.
• Keep fitter supplied with tools and equipment.
• Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipe and set sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipe.
• Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe.
• Perform general housekeeping duties and keeps work area clean.
• Other duties as assigned.
