Additionally, the department manages many of the state's advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the state's population that have been traditionally underserved.Description of WorkThe North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Boiler Operator for our Facility Management division. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.The person in this position will maintain a continuous vigil while taking all steps necessary to maintain a steam output that will meet total demand. This position requires a thorough working knowledge of fuel oil and gas boilers. Duties include maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, steam traps, and blowers. This position monitors load demands and starts or shuts down respective boilers to maintain the required steam output needed throughout the State Government Complex. Position provides constant monitoring of all operation readings/ controls and ensures all burner nozzles are kept clean during operations using Number 2 fuel oil. Position will ensure that all controls, feed water, draft, etc., are maintained for optimum plant operation. Individual must be able to react to changes in load demands as required, including during emergencies. The employee in this role must be able to operate, adjust, and identify problems with support equipment.
