Description of Work

This position is located at Johnston Correctional Institution in Johnston County (Smithfield), NC. The primary purpose is to install, maintain, alter and repair plumbing systems and components at Johnston Correctional Institution.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position performs journey duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems. Routine work assignments are in the nature of location of needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions. The incumbent exercises considerable independence in performance of routine work, but unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by a foreman. Work is reviewed by foreman through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

About the Division of Institutions :

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
