Job summary

General Motors in Kansas City is seeking a Body Department Welding Engineer to lead welding and joining systems, support launches, and drive continuous improvement on the plant floor. This onsite role requires shift rotation, and may involve extended hours during launches and maintenance activities.

You will coordinate with quality, engineering and production teams, manage change control for welding systems, and provide data-driven analyses to leadership on welding performance and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering or Metallurgy or equivalent experience.
• Training in mechanics, vibrations, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and manufacturing techniques.
• Reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Strong communication, organization and project-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with autonomy and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Apply structured problem-solving to root causes and corrective actions in welding.
• Develop predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
• Provide technical support to engineers, suppliers, and production teams.
• Lead design, programming, integration, installation, and launch of body equipment.
• Coordinate installation and validation of welding and joining equipment.
• Maintain documentation and reports on welding performance and changes.
• Support Throughput Improvement initiatives as required.
• Ensure safe work environment and compliance with policies.
