Position Purpose:

The Body Shop Technician is responsible for completing Body Shop repairs as outlined by TEL standards. This position will mentor and coach Body Shop Technicians in developing repair skills including Fiberglass/SMC, Plastics, Metal/Steel, Aluminum, Automotive paint finishing, and Welding.

Position Responsibilities:
  1. Review each work order and estimator’s notes to understand repairs needed prior to beginning work on the truck.
  2. Use frame and measuring equipment per vendor procedures, if applicable.
  3. Perform initial teardown of truck and prepare for repair work.
  4. Notify management of any difficulties or problems that may prevent a quality job from being performed or cause a change in the promised time.
  5. Supply and maintain personal tools and equipment to complete repairs.
  6. Maintain and wear all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
  7. Check parts against estimate and ensure proper parts are ordered and received.
  8. Perform all repair procedures according to factory specifications and company policy.
  9. Perform and sign-off on all quality checks before sending the truck to the paint department.
  10. Re-assemble painted truck and painted parts.
  11. Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  12. Perform a final quality check and review of work order prior to sending the truck to the detail department.
  13. Work with apprentices or lesser-skilled technicians in developing repair skills.
  14. Continuously learn, share, and implement improvements in all processes and responsibilities to enhance effectiveness of providing world-class service and support.
  15. Serve as Team Leader in a work system, overseeing operations, planning/coordination, and quality of the body shop to ensure repairs are carried out efficiently and to TEL standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Complete knowledge of manufacturers and technical repair processes.
  3. Ability to apply, sand, and finish Fiberglass/SMC, Plastics, Metal/Steel, and Aluminum.
  4. Thorough knowledge of automotive paint finishing.
  5. Preferred knowledge of welding Steel, Aluminum, and Plastic.
  6. Ability to fabricate parts/brackets when needed.
  7. Compliance with laws and regulations related to hazardous materials, reporting deviations to management.
  8. Understanding and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations affecting body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
Education and Experience:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least 5 years of related experience and/or training.
