Job summary

General Motors is seeking a manufacturing engineer to design, develop, and refine processes across assigned areas. You will evaluate equipment and tooling, direct a small team, and manage process documentation on the shop floor.

Collaboration with design and product engineering is essential to ensure feasible manufacturing solutions. The role requires travel up to 50%, an engineering degree, and 5+ years in automotive environments.

Qualifications

  • Willing to travel up to 50% for project needs.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent education and training.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with automotive assembly processes and related tools & equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct design, development, and improvement of manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze and implement product or machinery designs for manufacturability.
  • Propose and evaluate processes for equipment in the area.
  • Provide direction to a small group of technical employees.
  • Monitor expenditures for processes and equipment.
  • Interpret product data and specs to develop tools and equipment.
  • Review and approve tool designs and oversee tool build & installation.
  • Develop and oversee production of build process documentation.
  • Collaborate with design/product engineering on manufacturing feasibility.
  • Provide technical direction to support personnel and suppliers.
  • Occasionally supervise other engineers or engineering staff.
