Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a BOBST Helper in Houston, TX. The role supports slotter, feed, and die-cutters with a focus on setup, quality, and safety in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and preferred experience in corrugated production. The job requires reading blueprints and using a tape measure, with opportunities for cross-training and progression along the line.

Qualifications

• Prior corrugated industry experience preferred.
• 6 months of Press or Finishing Department experience preferred.
• Able to read and follow factory master instructions.
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
• Able to calculate figures such as percentages and measurements.
• Able to apply high school math concepts.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or graphic instructions.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and communicate with management.

Responsibilities

• Set-up slotter and feed sections on Press.
• Ensure bolts for cutting dies are in place and tight.
• Check Anilox rolls for damage.
• Assist in making accurate set-ups.
• Monitor board quality and defects (loose liner, warp, caliper).
• Report board quality problems and sort to keep machine running.
• Assist operator and cross-train on other machines as needed.
• Move up the line toward operator as required.
• Keep area clean and organized; sheets off the floor.
• Complete reports accurately and timely.
• Submit maintenance work orders for repairs.
• Follow all safety and health guidelines.

The Opportunity:

The Production -Bobst 1st Helper prepares slotter, feed section, and die cutters.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
• Set-up slotter and feed sections on Press
• Ensure all bolts for cutting dies are in place and tightly secured
• Check Anilox rolls for damage
• Assist in making accurate set-ups
• Monitor board quality, including -- loose liner, warp, dimensions, caliper, and any other defects
• Report board quality problems to the operator and sort as necessary to keep the machine running
• Assist operator in other duties
• Work at pace set by the machine operator
• Be willing to cross-train on other machines as necessary
• Be willing to move up the line of progression to operator regardless of shift
• Assist in keeping area clean and organized, this includes keeping sheets off of floor
• Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs
• Perform each task in a manner which prevents bodily injury, product, and equipment damage
• Use proper lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending techniques
• Observe all safety and health guidelines
• May be assigned to other projects and duties

What you need to succeed:

• High school diploma or GED
• Prior work in the corrugated industry, preferred
• 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing Department, preferred
• Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
• Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
• Able to apply concepts of high school math.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
• Working knowledge of product layouts and production specifications
• Working knowledge of product quality specifications
• Working knowledge of quality standards
• Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, showing a sense of urgency
• Able to provide and communicate sound information to Management
