Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Houston is seeking a Laminating Helper to assist the laminator with setup, operation, cleanup, and continuous improvements. This role supports production, with a 2nd shift (M-F, 1:15pm-9:45pm) and an average 40-65 hours per week, at $19 per hour.

Candidates should read factory masters, measure materials accurately, and contribute to safe, efficient operations. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and prefer prior corrugated industry experience,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Prior corrugated industry experience preferred.
• 6 months experience in the Press or Finishing Department preferred.
• Able to read and follow factory master instructions.
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy and perform basic math.
• Capable of prioritizing tasks and communicating with management.

Responsibilities

• Set up laminator accurately per setup techniques.
• Inspect labels for trim and registration before run.
• Maintain and organize label storage; provide inventories.
• Monitor sheet quality: loose liner, warp, size correctness.
• Check glue roll application; ensure optimal adhesive.
• Run equipment to maximize capacity and speed.
• Maintain Mylars for registrations on repeat orders.
• Cross-train on other machines as needed.
• Prepare accurate production reports and data timely.
• Submit maintenance work orders; assist with repairs.
• Adhere to safety and housekeeping policies; follow schedule.
• May be assigned to additional projects.

LAMINATING HELPER

$19-$19/HR

M-F 5 1:15pm-9:45pm avg 40-65 hr/wk (2nd Shift)

The Opportunity:

Responsible for assisting the operator in all activities associated with running the laminator including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Assist in setting-up laminator accurately in accordance with proper setup techniques.
• Inspect labels before run to ensure that label is to specification, particularly trim and registration.
• Maintain and keep orderly the label storage area. Provide inventories to sales management and accounting.
• Monitor corrugated sheet quality, including, but not limited to, loose liner, warp, and correct size.
• Check glue roll for proper glue application.
• Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
• Maintain file of Mylars for registration for repeat orders.
• Cross-train on other machines as needed
• Assist with completing necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Adheres to production schedule.
• May be assigned to other projects and duties

What you need to succeed:

• High school diploma or GED
• Prior work experience in the corrugated industry, preferred
• 6 months experience in the Press or Finishing Department, preferred
• Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, show sense of urgency
• Able to provide and communicate sound information to Management
