Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is hiring a Baler Operator in Houston, TX to work in a team operating the baler safely and efficiently. You will follow procedures and safety standards while producing neat bales and managing related materials.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with preferred corrugated industry experience and possible Lift Truck Operator certification. Benefits begin day 1, and a competitive salary is offered.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in the corrugated industry preferred.
• Lift Truck Operator License may be required.

Responsibilities

• Make good, neat bales.
• Operate hogger and hog up unusable paper and corrugated scrap.
• Assist in two-man feeds as necessary.
• Maintain inventories of baling wire, wax and tags, and scrap bales.
• Operate a forklift safely when necessary.
• Submit maintenance work orders for needed repairs.
• Follow all safety policies and maintain good housekeeping.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

The Opportunity:

The Baler Operator works within a team to help operate the Baler in a safe, efficient and reliable manner. The position holder will follow all pertinent procedures & processes as well as Group Health & Safety standards and rules

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Make good, neat bales.

Operate hogger and hog up all unusable paper and corrugated scrap.

Assist in two man feeds as necessary.

Maintain inventories of baling wire, wax and no wax tags, and scrap bales.

Operate a fork jack in a safe manner when necessary.

Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.

Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.

Additional duties may be assigned by management.

What you need to succeed:

High school diploma or GED.

Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:

Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.

Product layouts and production specifications

Product quality specifications

Quality standards
