Job summary

Nscale is seeking a senior controls engineer to own the design integrity of the Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) for North American facilities. You will set standards, author SOOs, and manage vendor and integrator interfaces to ensure repeatable, scalable control across cooling and power systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in industrial controls, building automation, or SCADA engineering, including datacenter experience preferred.
• Experience authoring Sequences of Operation and points lists and turning them into reusable libraries.
• Deep experience with PLC-based SCADA systems including architecture, I/O design, and redundancy.
• Experience developing P&IDs for mechanical/electrical systems with tagging and revision control.
• Strong knowledge of integration protocols and industrial networking (Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP, IEC 61850, SNMP).
• Understanding of datacenter cooling systems and electrical power monitoring (switchgear, UPS, PDU, generator).
• Excellent cross-discipline communication across mechanical, electrical, controls, IT, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Author, own, and maintain the standard Sequence of Operations for each equipment type and system in a Nscale facility.
• Own the standard points list, naming, and tagging conventions for each equipment type.
• Develop, review, and own P&IDs for mechanical and electrical systems.
• Serve as the controls SME for datacenter cooling systems (CDUs, chillers, CRAH/CRAC).
• Define metering topology and monitoring across the electrical distribution chain.
• Define control interfaces with vendors and review integrator submittals.
• Participate in FMEA and design reviews; own controls scope through testing.
• Ensure BMS/EPMS/SCADA designs comply with OT network standards.
