Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Blood Bank Technologist to join the Transfusion Service at University Hospital. The role involves preparing blood components for transfusion, receiving products from outside sources, thawing FFP and Cryoprecipitate, and allocating products for patients.

You will perform ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screening and identification, data entry, and handle phone inquiries about specimens and results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or bio-science with MT/MLS certification or equivalent.
• Certification MT/MLS to be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare blood components for transfusion, including thawing FFP and Cryoprecipitate.
• Receive products from outside sources and allocate for transfusions.
• ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screening and identification.
• Process specimens and enter results into the computer system.
• Issue blood and blood products and maintain patient files.
• Handle telephone inquiries regarding specimens, results, and product availability.
• Participate in quality control, quality assurance and general lab duties.
