The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Blood Bank Technologist to join the Transfusion Service at University Hospital. The role involves preparing blood components for transfusion, receiving products from outside sources, thawing FFP and Cryoprecipitate, and allocating products for patients.

Technologists process specimens to include entering test results into the computer system, ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screening and identification.
The medical technologist receives telephone inquiries regarding specimens, test results, and product availability.
The medical technologist is responsible for issuing blood and blood products for patient transfusion. Staff must maintain patient files receive and distributes supplies within the department.
This is a very complex transfusion service and serves a very diverse patient population.
The department is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
Position Summary The Medical Technologist processes patient specimens to include ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screen/identification. Handles phone inquires regarding patient results, specimen collection and product availability. The Medical Technologist will participate in quality control, quality assurance and general laboratory duties such as filing and data entry. Other duties and projects will be assigned to staff on an as needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications For Hire: Bachelors degree in medical technology with MT/ MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification of bachelor's degree in bio-science with post degree experience in clinical lab setting or equivalent combination of education/experience. Applicant must obtain MT/MLS certification within 1 year of hire.
Ongoing: Meets minimum continuing education requirements of contact hours and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
