Scope of Position
  • Prepare blood components for transfusion, including receiving blood products from outside sources, thawing FFP and cryoprecipitate, and allocating blood products for transfusions.
  • Process patient specimens: enter test results, perform ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screening and identification.
  • Receive telephone inquiries regarding specimens, test results, and product availability.
  • Issue blood and blood products for patient transfusion and maintain patient files.
  • Distribute supplies within the department and support general laboratory duties such as filing and data entry.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
Position Summary

The Medical Technologist will handle patient specimens and assist in transfusion services, including frequent telephone inquiries, specimen collection, product availability, quality assurance, and general laboratory tasks. Additional duties and projects will be assigned on an as‑needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology with MT/MLS certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification of a bachelor's degree in bioscience with post‑degree experience in a clinical laboratory setting or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Obtain MT/MLS certification within one year of hire.
  • Meet continuing education requirements for contact hours and health surveillance.
  • Demonstrate competence in the technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
