Job summary

Clark Davis Associates is seeking an Assistant Controller for a growing biotech client in New Jersey. This role manages day-to-day accounting operations, oversees the month-end close, ensures compliance, and helps scale the financial infrastructure.

You will supervise general ledger activity, coordinate with CROs on accruals, support SEC reporting and SOX controls, and partner with leadership to optimize financial processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA or pursuing highly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally Big 4 and life sciences/biotech industry exposure.
• Strong command of U.S. GAAP, technical accounting memos, and financial reporting standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end close, general ledger journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage accruals with CROs and clinical ops, including ASC 606, and equity/stock-based compensation.
• Support or lead SEC external reporting, tax provisioning, and internal controls/SOX readiness.
• Prepare and review journal entries with supporting documentation (accruals, prepaids, R&D, depreciation).
• Support the Controller in the preparation of SEC filings and footnote disclosures.
• Operate and document internal controls under SOX 404.
• Coordinate IT general controls activities with stakeholders and providers.
• Manage stock-based compensation programs and external tax provision coordination.
