Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician to perform skilled repair, calibration and preventive maintenance of complex electronic patient care and clinical engineering equipment in a hospital setting.

Under limited supervision, the technician installs, tests and maintains diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, coordinates third-party service, and ensures compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or Certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology (or related field) required.
• Bachelor degree preferred.
• 3 years minimum experience in installation, testing, maintenance and repair of medical equipment in a hospital.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance, repair and calibration services on complex electronic patient care, clinical laboratory, computerized pneumatic conveying equipment and basic radiographic equipment.
• Interprets and performs inspection procedures and documents procedures per Joint Commission regulations and department policy.
• Identifies safety hazards and documents actions to eliminate them; responds to work requests and troubleshoots malfunctions.
• Installs, repairs and maintains complex diagnostic and therapeutic equipment including electronic and mechanical components.
• Schedules third party repair when needs exceed department scope; maintains test equipment in good order.
• Communicates with nursing, allied health and medical staff regarding equipment operation to prevent failures.
• Assists with education on use and operation of clinical equipment and assists management with records and compliance.
