Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to service and repair medical devices across Illinois and Wisconsin. You will perform safety tests, collaborate with clinical and engineering teams, and manage CMMS data for work orders and assets.

Ideal applicants have an associate degree in bio-medical engineering/electronics and 1–3 years of relevant experience, with a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related military certifications.
  • Minimum 1-3 years installing, maintaining and repairing medical/electronic/mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Service equipment such as patient monitors, x-ray units, defibrillators and related medical devices.
  • Safety tests equipment to ensure protection from hazards.
  • Enter and manage work orders, assets, PM schedules in the CMMS.
  • Collaborate with sales, technicians or manufacturers to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain inventories and participate in budget planning and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.
  • Safety tests various equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.
  • Modifies or develops instruments or devices, under supervision of medical or engineering staff.
  • Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.
  • Completes daily work orders and other tasks as assigned with minimal supervision.
  • Acts as a resource for partners.
  • Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.
  • May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.
  • May require travel with personal or company vehicle.
  • May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications or CBET Certification.

Minimum 1-3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI preferred

Maintain a valid driver’s license

Have and maintain driving record per Mercy’s HR-01 Fleet Safety policy

PAY RANGE:

$27.17 - $40.75
