Job summary

NAES operates the Madison Biomass Facility in Colbert, Georgia, delivering reliable, low-emission electricity from wood biomass. The Operations Manager will lead daily plant operations, manage staff and budgets, and coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Compliance to optimize performance and environmental compliance.

The role emphasizes safety, continuous improvement, and coordination with grid operators and contractors to maintain reliable power delivery and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
• Supervisory/management experience in power generation operations required.
• Knowledge of solid-fuel power generation, boilers, turbines, and emissions control.
• Ability to analyze operating data, troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions.
• Understanding of environmental regulations, permits, and compliance requirements.
• Proven leadership skills with training/development of staff.
• Experience coordinating contractors, outages, and maintenance activities.
• Familiarity with budgets, cost control, and resource planning.
• Proficiency with CMMS and plant data historians; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily plant operations and supervise Operations personnel for safe, reliable, and compliant electricity generation.
• Develop and manage operational budgets and control expenditures.
• Establish operator schedules, staffing, and on-call coverage for continuous operations.
• Coordinate biomass fuel deliveries, handling, storage, quality monitoring, and inventory.
• Evaluate boiler, turbine, generator, and emissions-control system performance to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering on repairs, outages, and preventive maintenance.
• Oversee water chemistry and treatment programs supporting steam generation.
• Ensure safety, environmental permits, and company policies are followed.
