East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Biological Sciences Laboratory Assistant for Fall 2026 to assist with the setup and preparation of labs for Intro Bio I and Microbiology courses, help with cleaning, stocking the prep lab, and maintaining inventory. The anticipated start date is 08/24/2026 and the anticipated end date is 12/12/2026.

The position offers an hourly rate of $9 and 10–20 hours per week, located in Moore Biology Hall room 114.

Qualifications

• Must be a student within the biological sciences department. No other previous experience necessary, any class level accepted.

Responsibilities

• General lab safety and good laboratory practices.
• Assist with preparing chemical solutions, safe chemical handling, storage and disposal.
• Assist with preparing microbiology media including broths, agar plates and agar tubes.
• Equipment use, maintenance and some repair, including microscopes, water baths, pH meters, scales, spectrophotometers and gas sensors.
• Assist with aquaria care for several freshwater planted tanks. Monitoring plant and animal health, water quality and troubleshooting issues that may arise.
• Assist with greenhouse care, repotting and fertilizing plants as necessary, propagation of plants, monitoring and treating disease and/or pests as well as watering.
• Assist with maintaining general and chemical inventory using our inventory database LabArchives.

Job Overview:

The laboratory assistant will help with the preparation and set up of labs for the Introductory Biology 1 and Microbiology courses as well as more general tasks such as cleaning and stocking the prep lab and maintaining inventory. Some of the skills you will learn through this position are listed below. No previous experience is required.There are also ample opportunities for students to pursue areas of interest or focus on a specific skill set they may be interested in.
