Job summary

Daytona State College is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant to support science labs. The role involves preparing and cleaning up lab materials, maintaining clean lab spaces, restocking supplies, and assisting with care of live specimens across Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, and Microbiology.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in at least 6 credits, meet SAP or GPA requirements, and can submit their resume and course schedule for consideration. Work-study funding may apply.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in at least 6 credits.
• Must currently be meeting SAP, or a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
• Transient and Dual Enrollment students are ineligible for student employment.
• Applicants must submit resume and current course schedule to complete the application

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, set-up, and proper clean-up of materials and equipment used in science labs
• Keep classrooms and lab prep areas clean and organized
• Restock consumable items in the labs
• Wash lab glassware and properly dispose of biowaste
• Assist in the care of live specimens such as plants, protists, and bacteria
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies and materials
• Report any problems in the science labs to the Lab Coordinator or a faculty member
• Assist with the following disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, and Microbiology
• Must be able to work under stressful situations
• Must have strong time management skills
• Must be able to work with chemicals and live specimens
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions precisely
• Must be computer literate
• Must be able to work independently, effectively, and professionally

Job description

• Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits.
• Must currently be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), or a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
• Transient and Dual Enrollment students are in eligible for student employment.
• Please Note: Applicants required to submit their resume and current course schedule in order for their application to be considered complete

Funding

• Federal Work Study (FWS) and/or Institutional Work Study (IWS)

Hours per week

• Up to 20 hours.

Days Needed

• Monday through Friday. (Flexible)

Times Needed

• Availability between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Flexible)
