Job summary

PacBio, a premier life science technology company, seeks an experienced bioinformatics support scientist to enable data analysis for customers and collaborators. You will train customers on PacBio data analysis, support pre- and post-sales activities, perform data analysis, and serve as a bridge between customers and PacBio.

You will combine bioinformatics, molecular biology, and software expertise while communicating with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• MSc/PhD in life sciences, bioinformatics, or related field.
• 2+ years’ experience in bioinformatics, data management or tech support, ideally in life sciences industry.
• Experience with high throughput DNA sequencing data analyses and pipelines.
• Knowledge of sequence analysis tools and workflows (alignment, variant calling, assembly, genome visualization, transcript mapping).
• Understanding of Unix systems administration, networking, and large-scale compute hardware.
• Experience with bash, Python, and R.
• Excellent troubleshooting and customer-support skills.
• Strong presentation experience to internal and external audiences.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist and enable customers to ensure successful use of PacBio data analysis software.
• Train customers on HiFi sequencing data and SMRT Link tools.
• Act as primary contact to understand customers’ sequencing data.
• Provide timely bioinformatics and software assistance to customers.
• Support sales with scientific presentations, discussions, and meetings.
• Collaborate with application specialists, sales, service engineers, and tech support.
• Provide customer feedback to product marketing and software development.
• Support rollout of new software and installations.
• Coordinate with internal teams for instrument installations.
• Work in the field with up to 20% travel for onsite support and training.
