We are partnering with an established mechanical contractor in the Twin Cities seeking a VDC/BIM Department Manager to lead its Virtual Design and Construction team.
This individual will oversee BIM standards, MEP coordination, fabrication modeling, and overall VDC workflows across multiple concurrent projects. The role will also manage and develop VDC staff while working closely with Engineering, Project Management, prefabrication, and field teams.
Projects span a variety of markets, including industrial, healthcare, hospitality, commercial, education, and multifamily construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the VDC/BIM team, including workload planning, project assignments, training, and mentorship.
- Own and maintain company VDC/BIM standards, Revit templates, Autodesk Fabrication content, shared parameters, naming conventions, LOD requirements, and QA/QC processes.
- Lead MEP coordination efforts with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and other trades.
- Perform and oversee clash detection using Navisworks and Revizto, driving coordination issues through resolution.
- Oversee LOD 400 mechanical and plumbing modeling and fabrication-ready model development.
- Manage the production of spools, shop drawings, sleeve layouts, hanger layouts, and Bills of Materials for prefabrication and field installation.
- Partner with Engineering to transition design-build models into coordination and fabrication with minimal rework.
- Support Project Managers and estimators during preconstruction by identifying VDC requirements, coordination schedules, and prefabrication opportunities.
- Manage VDC technology and workflows across Revit, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks, Revizto, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ReCap, eVolve, and/or Stratus.
- Support laser scanning, point-cloud workflows, site surveys, field coordination, and quality-control efforts.
- Track VDC performance, including project hours, clash resolution, and fabrication rework.
