Position Summary

The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing billing, collections, and payment posting for our clinics. The role involves following up with insurance companies and other stakeholders, applying exceptional customer service to achieve positive results. Team members will utilize negotiation skills with key stakeholders, including insurance companies and patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle billing, collections, and payment posting, collaborating with authorization specialists, Patient coordinators, and doctors. Communicate effectively with other departments to correct errors and discrepancies.
• Research and contact clients/patients regarding overdue bills and accounts.
• Contact insurance companies to determine claim status, investigate denials, and follow up or appeal as necessary.
• Review posted payments for accuracy and completeness.
• Negotiate payment plans with patients unable to pay medical bills due to financial hardship.
• Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance organizations.
• Resolve financial discrepancies and monitor missed payments.
• Maintain billing software, update cash spreadsheets, rate changes, and collection reports.
• Adhere to standards to ensure quality results.
• Manage Accounts Receivable (Insurance/Patient), including generating weekly statements for mailing via the clearinghouse.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, insurance companies, team members, and management.
• Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
• Proficiency in computer billing software and Microsoft Office; experience with AdvancedMD, NextGen is a plus.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to address questions from patients and insurance companies.

Education, Licensure, and Technical Requirements

• Minimum of two years of proven medical billing experience.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to meet U.S. employment and eligibility requirements.
