Job summary

Peak View Behavioral Health seeks a Billing Specialist to join our on-site team in Colorado Springs. This role focuses on accurate billing and reimbursement processes for patient accounts, including insurance and self-pay, with emphasis on timely follow-up and reporting.

Responsibilities include auditing billing records, managing accounts receivable, and processing secondary claims. Strong knowledge of electronic billing and A/R procedures is required, preferably in a medical/psychiatric setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates’ degree in accounting/finance preferred.
• Two or more years’ of business office experience and Accounts Receivable required, preferably in medical/psychiatric setting.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and electronic billing required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures certified coding specialists have audited patients’ billing records against clinical records before billing and maintains supporting documentation.
• Manages assigned accounts receivable balances to ensure payer sources are billed timely and accurately, and payments are made within terms.
• Documents/communicates billing released to third party payers.
• Follows up on outstanding balances to ensure prompt payment within payer terms and cash flow.
• Conducts ongoing account audits using AR, Billed Open, and Unbilled reports to assess billing and collections efficiency.
• Generates secondary claims and rebills, verifies claim forms, and transfers/releases to third party payers.
• Processes refund requests timely.
• Data entry of charges, payments, adjustments, and other transactions for insurance and patient billing.
• Records and balances A/R and miscellaneous cash.
• Prepares bank deposits and posts cash adjustments to patient records.
• Retrieves and performs electronic billing to insurance companies.
• Makes follow up calls to insurance companies and guarantors.
• Checks accuracy of figures, calculations and postings.

About the Job:

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Billing Specialist is responsible for obtaining accurate and detailed information concerning insurance and self-pay reimbursement on all patient accounts which include billing, collections, follow up, reporting, and other duties as assigned to maximize re-imbursement of services provided to achieve established hospital goals.

Pay Range: $27.00 - 28.50 hourly

Roles and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensures that certified coding specialists have audited patients’ billing records against clinical records before billing and maintains supporting documentation of audit in the patients’ billing files.
• Manages assigned accounts receivable balances to ensure that appropriate payer sources are billed timely and accurately, and payments are made within payment terms.
• Documents/communicates billing released to third party payers.
• Follows up on any outstanding account balances in a timely manner and resolves any issues immediately to ensure prompt payment within payer payment terms to allow for an effective and efficient cash flow of hospital receivables.
• Conducts on-going account audits utilizing AR, Billed Open, and Unbilled Reports for determining the efficiency and accuracy of billing and collections operations.
• Generates secondary claims and rebills, verifies claim form is accurate and transfers/releases to third party payer.Reviews Rebill/Denial Log daily and processes rejections from EOB/ERA.
• Performs timely processing of refund requests.
• Accurately and timely performs data entry of charges, payments, adjustments, and other transactions to patient accounts as required to include both insurance and patient billing for charges incurred.
• Records and balances both A/R and miscellaneous cash.
• Prepares bank deposits and post cash and adjustments to patient records as required.
• Retrieves and performs electronic billing to insurance companies in a timely manner.
• Makes follow up calls to insurance companies and guarantors as required.
• Checks the accuracy of figures, calculations and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by others.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates’ degree in accounting/finance preferred.
• Two or more years’ of business office experience and Accounts Receivable required, preferably in medical/psychiatric setting.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and electronic billing required.
