Job summary

Lake County Department of Utilities is seeking a Customer Service/Billing Specialist to handle clerical, billing, and customer service duties. Responsibilities include reviewing meter readings, preparing accounts for billing, and resolving discrepancies through data research.

The role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication skills, with priority given to accuracy and timely service. Start pay is $19.50 per hour with full-time benefits in Ohio.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Ohio driver's license or state ID.
• One (1) year office experience or equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Explain how bills are computed and address sewer/water service complaints; collect data to correct errors and discrepancies on accounts; schedule work orders to investigate issues.
• Compute meter readings by reviewing reports; prepare accounts for residential and commercial billings; process billing on sheriff sales and bankruptcy.
• Prepare, post, research, and verify payments; research and resolve returned items; maintain financial reports and reconciliations.
• Process delinquent notices and shut-off notices; receive payments for sewer/water charges; review permits and establish new accounts.
• Maintain inventory and daily schedule; balance register and prepare mail; gather and deliver correspondence; maintain daily receipts.
• Balance reports and postage accounts; prepare and mail billings and reimbursements to city officials.
