Job summary

Volunteers of America Greater New York is seeking an Accountant (Hybrid) to prepare billings, reconcile accounts, and ensure accuracy of agency claims across government funders. You will advise the Supervisor on billing issues affecting cash flow.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, two years billing experience, and proficiency with an in-house accounting system plus advanced Excel/Word skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Two years preferred relevant billing experience.
• Knowledge and ability to use an in-house PC-based accounting system in a network environment, including ability to create, run, and verify reports.
• Advanced expertise with Excel/Word is essential.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and conceptual skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and reconcile governmental billing worksheets to cost centers.
• Submit billings and re-submissions through funder portals.
• Verify billed expenses within the correct accounting period.
• Utilize funder guidelines and cost manuals to maximize reimbursement.
• Propose journal entries and allocation adjustments for accurate reporting.
• Track billing and payment information.
• Gather backup documentation to support claims.
• Assist in budget modifications.
