Brooklyn Community Services in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Grant Accountant to manage government and grant-funded financial activities. The role supports billing, reconciliations, reporting, and contract monitoring in a hybrid, full-time setting, reporting to the Director of Grants and Budget.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, 2–4 years of nonprofit grants experience, solid GAAP knowledge, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably nonprofit or grant-funded.
• Experience with government contracts and grant billing preferred.
• Basic knowledge of GAAP and financial reconciliation.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems preferred.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and submit invoices, claims, and financial reports to funders on time.
• Prepare accounts receivable, revenue, advances, and grant reconciliation schedules.
• Review monthly reports and identify variances between actual expenditures and budgets.
• Monitor contract spending and coordinate with program staff on budgets.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with general ledger analyses.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities for grants and contracts.
• Assist audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
• Maintain accurate financial records for grants and contracts.
• Ensure funder regulations and internal controls are followed.
• Identify billing discrepancies and escalate concerns.
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
