Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is seeking a Class Size Bilingual Teacher Assistant to support instruction in Priority Schools, under the supervision of a teacher with a state certificate. Responsibilities include tutoring students, assisting with classroom activities, and helping with bulletin boards and materials.

Successful candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid ISBE paraprofessional license (60 college hours or Parapro/Work Keys).

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or G.E.D. equivalent).
• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE, via 60 college hours or Parapro/Work Keys.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes bilingual skills and assists in supervising students during lunch and playground activities.
• Provides security functions within the school and monitors corridors.
• Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
• Assist teachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying students’ work.
• Operates photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce educational materials.
• Maintains orderly arrangement of classrooms.
• Greet and direct visitors to appropriate areas of the school.
• Consult with teachers regarding concerns of individual students.
• Operate audiovisual equipment (cassette recorders, projectors, etc.).
• Provide tutoring services under supervision of classroom teacher.
• Assist in collecting and grading homework and exams.
• Assist in supervising loading/unloading of students on buses.
• Assist in receipts processing and insurance of new books.
• Collect daily absentee reports and contact guardians.
• May assist elementary teachers with wraps and toilet recesses.
• May assist in supervising school transportation procedures.
