Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in reinforcing learning for students with students with various disabilities. The role involves personal care, one-on-one tutoring, and assistance with daily living skills under direction of a licensed teacher.

The position requires a valid paraprofessional license or completion of 60 college hours with eligibility.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or have completed 60 college hours with eligibility for certification.
• CPR training is highly desirable and may be completed as a condition of employment.
• Good knowledge of students with various disabilities and of basic mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing learning for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and assist with daily living skills and personal care as needed.
• Note taking, record-keeping, and helping with behavior documentation.
• Assist in field trips, swimming, medical appointments, and instruction under supervision.
