Job summary

Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach or Utah is seeking a Collector to support the Collections Manager in processing assigned accounts, contacting delinquent members, and obtaining past due payments or commitment agreements. The role requires knowledge of FDCPA, ability to work with various loan types, and skill in skip tracing, establishing repayment plans, and ensuring compliance with policy.

Applicants should have at least 2 years in collections and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Must have strong communication skills and professional telephone etiquette.
• Ability to reference policy and procedures when applying information.
• Capable of performing math calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of FDCPA and collection laws to ensure compliance.
• Experience with delinquency accounts and various loan types is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process collection payments via multiple systems (Western Union, Converge, ECM).
• Contact delinquent members and obtain past due payments or set up repayment plans.
• Prepare and send collection letters/emails and Workout Packets as needed.
• Respond to special collection projects and assist with training Level 1 collectors.
• Apply knowledge of loan types and skip tracing in collections activities.
• Support loss prevention strategies and policy adherence.

Job Title: Collector
Job Type: Full-time
Department Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm (1-2 Saturdays per month- 4-hr shift)
Location: Virginia Beach,Virginia or S Jordan, Utah
Hiring Range: $20 - $22per hour
(Higher compensation maybe considered based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity)

The Collector is responsible to the CollectionsManager/Supervisor for the efficient processing of assigned accounts. Contacts members delinquent members and obtainpast due payments, commitment agreements, establish a repayment plan, or makerecommendations to mitigate the Credit Union loss.

Responsible and Accountable for:

• Processes collection department payments via Western Union, Converge, ECM (ACH and Credit Card).
• Maintains established performance standards.
• Train and mentor level 1 collector.
• Assists management with special collection projects.
• Sends collection letters and emails using expiration dates and notices that are appropriate with delinquency type
• Recommends and prepares Workout Packets following approved Workout Program.
• Solid understanding of how to handle bankruptcy accounts
• Working knowledge of Repo process, letters, arrangements, fees, payments, and CPI.
• Responsible to understanding all loan types
• Skip Trace using approved sites.
• Understanding FDCPA, collection procedures and following Chartway Credit Union Policy and Procedures.
• Assists in area as directed by manager(s).
• Recommend loss prevention strategies that provide protection for the credit union with respect to its interest in collateral.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Communicate clearly utilizing proper grammar and telephone etiquette effectively and in a professional matter.
• Ability to correspond in a professional manner using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to refer to policy and procedures when applying information and making decisions.
• Ability to change quickly with the needs of the Collection Department.
• Ability to compute math calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplications division and percentages.
• Adherence to State and Federal collection and bankruptcy laws, rules, and regulations. Cross- Collateralization polices Credit rating agencies and reports.
• Must be able to maintain composure with difficult or irate customers.
• Meet or exceed all training requirements for Level 1 position
• Ability to attend all required Credit Union meetings and successfully complete all required training classes.
  

Education and Experience:

• Education: High school education or equivalent GED.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Collections experience in any of these areas. Consumer loan, Mortgage, Fraud, Small Business and Student Loans or equivalent experience working mid to high level delinquency accounts.
