Hunter Sage in Houston seeks a bilingual Senior Payroll & Benefits to own payroll operations across a multi-entity, multi-state environment. This hands-on role manages the entire payroll lifecycle and contributes to process improvements.

This position sits within a collaborative HR/People team but operates as an independent contributor, emphasizing accuracy, compliance, and timely data across payroll and benefits. Onsite in Houston with potential flex after ramp-up.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll experience in a multi-state environment.
• Hands-on experience with UKG / UltiPro required.
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, reporting, and best practices.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel).
• Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing deadlines and competing priorities.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for ~600 employees across weekly and biweekly cycles.
• Ensure accurate calculation of wages, taxes, deductions, bonuses, commissions, and other pay components.
• Review and reconcile payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues proactively.
• Partner with managers to ensure timely timekeeping, approvals, and data accuracy.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
• Handle employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and urgency.
• Prepare and analyze payroll reports (compensation, taxes, deductions, leave, etc.).
• Support benefits-related payroll activities including deduction audits and invoice reconciliation.
• Assist with open enrollment updates and ongoing benefits administration.
• Maintain organized payroll records and support transition to digital file systems.
• Contribute to internal projects such as audits, process improvements, and system enhancements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, accounting, and external vendors.
