Job summary

Delta Staffing in Troy, Michigan is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee payroll operations for multiple U.S. locations. You will ensure accurate and timely processing, maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and support employee inquiries.

  • Equivalent combination of education and payroll experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payrolls for multiple locations.
  • Manage payroll processing from time & attendance review through payroll calculation, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Administer garnishments, tax levies, and other required payroll deductions.
  • Prepare off-cycle payrolls, voids, payroll corrections, prior-quarter adjustments, and W-2 corrections.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and demographic records, including status changes and job updates.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries via phone, email, and Teams, including questions related to deductions and taxes.
  • Generate payroll reports for audits, retirement plan reporting, workers' compensation forecasting, compliance, and other business needs.
  • Collaborate with payroll vendors, Accounting, Finance, and Tax teams to provide payroll documentation and data.
  • Process payroll-related invoices and supporting documentation for vendors.
  • Serve as backup support for benefits administration, wellness initiatives, and leave tracking when needed.
  • Manage and maintain the timekeeping system, including employee training and support.
  • Participate in payroll and HR projects, policy improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee payroll operations for multiple U.S. locations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, providing exceptional employee support, and driving continuous process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced with multi-state payroll administration in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process bi-weekly payrolls, weekly expense reimbursements, annual bonuses, and service awards for multiple locations.
  • Manage payroll processing from time and attendance review through payroll calculation, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Administer garnishments, tax levies, and other required payroll deductions.
  • Prepare off-cycle payrolls, voids, payroll corrections, prior-quarter adjustments, and W-2 corrections.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and demographic records, including status changes and job updates.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries via phone, email, and Microsoft Teams, including questions related to:
  • Payroll deductions
  • Taxes
  • Address changes
  • Payroll system and mobile app support
  • General payroll issue resolution
  • Generate payroll reports for audits, retirement plan reporting, workers' compensation forecasting, compliance, and other business needs.
  • Collaborate with payroll vendors, Accounting, Finance, and Tax teams to provide payroll documentation, tax reporting, deposit information, and other requested data.
  • Process payroll-related invoices and supporting documentation for vendors.
  • Serve as backup support for benefits administration, wellness initiatives, and leave tracking when needed.
  • Manage and maintain the timekeeping system, including employee training and support.
  • Participate in payroll and HR projects, policy improvements, and continuous improvement (Kaizen) initiatives.
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and payroll experience will be considered.
  • SHRM certification is preferred.
Experience
  • 4–8 years of payroll experience using UKG Payroll in a multi-state, multi-site environment.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • U.S. payroll laws and regulations
  • Multi-state payroll processing
  • Garnishments and wage withholding
  • Leave administration
  • Payroll compliance and reporting requirements
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, including:
  • Data analysis and forecasting
  • Payroll auditing and reporting
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems, preferably UKG.
