The ideal candidate will manage weekly and biweekly payroll, Open Enrollment, and benefits administration, ensuring data integrity, tax compliance, and robust vendor relationships.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits.
  • Full-cycle U.S. payroll experience with multi-state exposure.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
  • Experience administering HRIS and payroll systems with reporting.
  • Open Enrollment experience and benefits reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end weekly and biweekly U.S. payroll for hourly and salaried staff.
  • Conduct pre-payroll audits, reconciliations, and data validation.
  • Monitor payroll tax requirements across jurisdictions; handle notices and registrations.
  • Oversee administration of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, retirement, and voluntary benefits.
  • Lead Open Enrollment activities with vendor coordination and communications.
  • Coordinate leave administration (FMLA/LOA) and system updates.
  • Serve as HRIS and payroll systems owner: configuration, testing, integrations, reporting.
  • Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, payroll providers, and TPA vendors.
  • Maintain controls and documentation; identify process improvements and automation opportunities.

Job description

A confidential organization is seeking an experienced Payroll, Benefits & HRIS Lead to take ownership of key Human Capital operations supporting a multi-state workforce.

This is a hands-on role with broad functional responsibility across U.S. payroll, employee benefits, HRIS administration, compliance, and process controls. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, deadlines, confidentiality, and problem-solving are critical to business continuity and employee experience.

About This Opportunity

In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for payroll, benefits, and HRIS matters, partnering with employees, leaders, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure processes are accurate, compliant, and effectively managed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage end-to-end weekly and biweekly U.S. payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Conduct pre-payroll audits, reconciliations, and validation of payroll data, identifying and resolving discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
  • Monitor payroll tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions and coordinate the resolution of tax notices, registrations, and related issues.
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, retirement, and voluntary benefits.
  • Lead Open Enrollment activities, including vendor coordination, system configuration, employee communications, testing, and post-enrollment audits.
  • Manage benefit eligibility, qualifying life events, deductions, enrollments, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Coordinate employee leave administration, including FMLA/LOA, benefits continuation, documentation, and system updates.
  • Serve as the functional owner of HRIS and payroll systems, ensuring data accuracy, configuration, testing, integrations, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, payroll providers, third-party administrators, and HRIS vendors.
  • Maintain strong operational controls and documentation while identifying opportunities to improve, simplify, and automate processes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits, including full-cycle U.S. payroll.
  • Strong experience with multi-state payroll.
  • Experience managing both weekly and biweekly payroll cycles.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
  • Comprehensive experience with benefits administration and Open Enrollment.
  • Experience with FMLA/LOA, COBRA, retirement plans, and benefits reconciliation.
  • Experience administering HRIS and payroll systems, including configuration, testing, integrations, reporting, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced Excel and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Experience managing relationships with external vendors, brokers, carriers, and service providers.
  • Professional fluency in English; Spanish is strongly preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Recent experience with Dayforce / Ceridian.
  • Experience with Empower or similar retirement plan platforms.
  • Experience supporting a workforce of 300+ employees.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll registrations and compliance.
  • CPP, CEBS, SHRM, or related certification.
