Job summary

People, Incorporated is a human service agency serving the Southcoast community, including Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton. We are seeking a compassionate Translator/Interpreter to support the Early Intervention program, providing real-time interpretation and written translation to ensure effective communication for families with limited English proficiency or who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications

• Written and verbal fluency in English and the target language(s).
• Strong understanding of medical and educational terminology relevant to early intervention.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build rapport with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
• A qualifying criminal background check, driving record, and a valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to provide a current copy of all required health records.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time interpretation during EI sessions, intakes, assessments, home visits, IFSP meetings, and other interactions as requested.
• Accurately convey spoken or signed language between English and target language, preserving meaning and tone.
• Act as a cultural liaison to assist understanding across diverse backgrounds.
• Translate written documents such as consent forms and service plans as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics in EI settings.
• Participate in team meetings and ongoing training to improve interpretation services.
