Job summary

People, Incorporated is seeking an Early Intervention Translator/Interpreter to support communication between EI providers, children, and families with limited English proficiency or who are deaf or hard of hearing. The role ensures accurate interpretation during assessments, meetings, and service delivery across EI settings.

Qualifications

• Written and verbal fluency in English and the target language(s) (spoken or sign language).
• Strong understanding of medical and educational terminology relevant to early intervention.
• Maintain on file a current copy of all required professional licenses, CPR, first aid, and health records.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build rapport with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
• A qualifying criminal background check, driving record, and a valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to provide a current copy of all required health records.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time interpretation during EI sessions, intakes, assessments, home visits, IFSP meetings, and other interactions as requested by EI staff.
• Accurately convey spoken or signed language between English and the target language, preserving meaning and nuance.
• Serve as a cultural liaison to help team members understand cultural nuances affecting communication and service delivery.
• Assist families in understanding the cultural context of EI services, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of interpretation sessions, including time spent and services provided, as required.
