Job summary

Office of the Municipal Public Defender in Denver, CO is seeking a Peer Support Specialist I to provide peer support and resource navigation for clients in a fast-paced, court-connected setting.

You will work onsite with a team that includes attorneys and support staff, offering trauma-informed, client-centered assistance and helping clients access recovery resources and housing, services, and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a peer support related certification is highly desired.
  • Colorado Peer & Family Specialist designation or a National NAADAC CPRS designation or Mental Health America CPRS.
  • Peer support specialist training completed or in-progress.
  • Lived experience with mental health, substance use, trauma, or related co-occurring conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and resource navigation for OMPD clients.
  • Build person-centered relationships using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Demonstrate SAMHSA Core Competencies for Peer Workers.
  • Collaborate with OMPD staff across divisions to provide holistic representation.
  • Link clients to recovery resources and community supports.
  • Attend court, office, and jail to provide timely peer support and assist with reentry planning.
  • Document progress and timelines in OMPD's case management system.
