Responsibilities

• Patient Intake, Registration & Documentation: Manages patient information & validates documents.
• Administrative & Technology Operations: Keeps schedules and navigates systems.
• Case Management Tasks: Coordinates documentation and follow-ups.
• Financial Counseling: Assesses coverage and assists with financial options.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: Applies payer rules and resolves issues.
• Inquiries & Patient Concerns: Addresses questions and tracks follow-ups.
• Scheduling: Coordinates scheduling of procedures and visits.
• Transport: Arranges required transportation when needed.
• HIM Coordination: Resolves chart issues and supports ROI.

Job Description

The Inova Juniper Program is looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join the team. This role will be full-time day shift, Monday–Friday, office hours 8:00am-5:00pm. Fairfax clinic; required to work occasionally at clinics in Mt Vernon, Herndon, Manassas

The Patient Access Specialist provides excellent service by identifying customer needs and fulfilling customer expectations. Performs assigned duties related to patient admissions while completing assigned activities related to patient scheduling for medical procedures. Verifies and enters insurance information and authorization/referral requirements into databases. Counsels patients on financial liability by using available financial counseling tools to achieve maximum reimbursement for patient services and ensures a safe patient care environment to the fullest potential, in an effort to achieve team goals.

Job Responsibilities

• Patient Intake, Registration & Documentation: Manages complex cases, resolves errors, confirms authorizations, validates, and indexes documents.
• Administrative & Technology Operations: Prepares schedules, tracks records, and navigates multiple systems efficiently.
• Case Management Tasks: Coordinates documentation and follows up on case-related tasks.
• Financial Counseling: Assesses coverage and initiates financial assistance.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: Applies payer-specific rules, resolves issues, and identifies contract limitations.
• Inquiries & Patient Concerns: Resolves moderate concerns and tracks follow-ups with patients.
• Kiosk: Educates patients and reports usage trends on kiosks.
• Patient Referrals: Validates insurance and tracks referral status.
• Scheduling: Schedules specialty visits and coordinates preparation.
• Transport: Coordinates special needs transport.
• Health Information Management (HIM) Coordination: Resolves minor chart issues and assists with release of information (ROI).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience - 1 year of healthcare patient access experience
• Education - High School diploma or equivalent
