Job summary

Muslim Community & Health Center (MCHC) in Milwaukee seeks a Medical Interpreter to serve Rohingya and Burmese-speaking patients on a flexible, part-time (PRN) basis. The role involves real-time face-to-face interpretation during medical appointments at the Milwaukee clinic.

You will translate verbal and written material, act as a cultural liaison, and ensure HIPAA compliance while staying updated on medical terminology and interpreter ethics.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Rohingya and Burmese alongside clear English communication is required.
• Knowledge of healthcare terminology is preferred.
• Formal medical interpreter training is strongly preferred.
• National certification through CCHI or NBCMI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Convey medical information faithfully in both directions during appointments and procedures.
• Translate written clinical documents as needed.
• Act as a cultural liaison to bridge communication and understanding between patients and the healthcare team.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality throughout encounters.
• Stay current on medical terminology, interpreter ethics, and best practices.
