Job summary

Muslim Community & Health Center (MCHC) in Milwaukee seeks a Medical Interpreter to serve Rohingya and Burmese-speaking patients on a flexible, part-time (PRN) basis. The role involves real-time face-to-face interpretation during medical appointments at the Milwaukee clinic.

You will translate verbal and written material, act as a cultural liaison, and ensure HIPAA compliance while staying updated on medical terminology and interpreter ethics.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Rohingya and Burmese alongside clear English communication is required.
• Knowledge of healthcare terminology is preferred.
• Formal medical interpreter training is strongly preferred.
• National certification through CCHI or NBCMI is a plus.

About the Role

You will provide accurate, real-time face-to-face interpretation between patients and healthcare providers during medical appointments and procedures at the clinic in Milwaukee's Clayton Crest area.

Your responsibilities include:

• Translating written clinical documents as needed
• Acting as a cultural liaison to bridge communication and understanding between patients and the healthcare team
• Maintaining strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality throughout all encounters
• Staying current on medical terminology, interpreter ethics, and best practices

Requirements

• High school diploma (required)
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a medical interpreter (required)
• Fluency in Rohingya and Burmese alongside clear English communication
• Knowledge of healthcare and medical terminology
• Strong commitment to patient confidentiality and cultural competency
• Formal medical interpreter training program completion (strongly preferred)
• National certification through CCHI or NBCMI (preferred)
• Ability to work prolonged periods standing or sitting in a clinical environment
