Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Interpreter at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. This per diem night shift role provides oral interpretation and limited written translation between LEP patients and English-speaking care teams, with on-call Sunday-Maturday schedule and potential daytime/evening shifts.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and another language, be able to work independently, and commit to achieving national certification within 18 months.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English and at least one other language.
• Ability to move swiftly throughout hospital and outpatient locations.
• Translate brief passages (≤ 3 paragraphs) between languages.
• Commit to highest national certification within 18 months and CEU upkeep.
• Oral certification exam within 6 months if not fully certified.

Responsibilities

• Provides fluid consecutive or simultaneous interpretation for patients, families, and providers.
• Translates brief passages and forwards frequently used documents for translation.
• Documents interpreting encounters in EMR and other systems with high accuracy.
• Functions as a team member with Interpreter & Translation Services and coordinates availability.
• Attends monthly staff meetings and completes required training toward certification.
